“[On Not Loving the World] Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16 NIV

Trying something new Devo Video and daily verse..

““Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18NIV

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

Settle it

““Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18NIV

This passage really speaks volumes of working it out and forgiveness.   The Lord forgives us from all that we do but we need to work it out and then it is settled.

Do a life check! Is there anything you need to get settled with the Lord?

My House will be YOUR house

“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.””Joshua 24:15 NIV

People place this scripture in there house to remind them that serving the Lord has to be the fore front of your mind.  Setting the right priorities will make all the difference in your home.  The level of your commitment to the Lord creates of destroys the atmosphere in your home.

my wife, my kids and I have decided and committed that our home will be HIS home.

Have a blessed day

I urge ....

“[Instructions on Worship] I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 NIV

I look that at this passage and I think of the very last statement.  That we may live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and holiness.  Wow! To live in peaceful and quiet lives seems to be very difficult with this rat race that we live in. I know it is possible because its in the Bible.  To have that kind of solitude in all goodness and holiness what a bonus.

Well I pray that this will speak to you heart as it have mine.

Ministers - Yes that means you

“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” 2 Corinthians 3:6 NIV

I just watch a movie "Grace Card"... Really enjoyed it..

One of the Characters was concerned he wasn't making a impact. The question is this are you willing to be used by the the Lord? Are you willing to tell people about Jesus?

Then you are called to be a minister.. It may not be a shepherd of a church. But wherever you work, play or etc becomes you mission field. Go forth and minister.

Pray for our Government/leaders

“[Submission to Governing Authorities] Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”Romans 13:1 NIV

Some people would rather picket our leaders but I believe that we should pray for wisdom.

Have a great day...

YOU

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

WOW! did you realize how special you are. This passage of scripture should really encourage you.  I am amazed at this description. Don't feel validated today.

So why not praise Him today!

Take in the sites

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,”Ephesians 1:18 NIV

So many people are blinded by the things of the world they forget to really take in all that the Lord has for them. When I look around how awesome He is.

Last Night (Oct 31), we held our 6th annual Harvest Hoe Down at the church. This year we had 300 (Adults and children) in attendance.  This amazing that when this all began there was only 50.  This is so much the numbers it is about sharing the love of Christ to a community.

My challenge is really open your eyes and take in the sites.

Be Alert Comrades

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” 1 Peter 5:8-9 NIV

Well today is Halloween! Well this is the day some people celebrate the day of the dead.  But we as believers have to be on the Look out daily! Because we are in a spiritual Battle (Eph 6)

Have blessed day

It's Alive

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Every Wednesday at church we have a Bible study. We just finished Ephesians.  It is amazing that the bible was written many years ago but still speaks to this current culture.  I would call that alive and active.

Whenever I sit down to do my devotions and read the word. It makes me think and evaluate my life and the things that I can improve upon.

So today as you ready your bible think on this and evaluate you life.

May God Bless you life.

Having Balance...

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17NIV

This morning as I read this scripture it made think that sometimes we look at scripture and use it only one of those ways. Sometimes get to caught up in the rebuking, correcting that  they forget about teaching and training.

Then you must respond to the point in which scripture came about the breath of God.

This  is amazing... So the quick question Do you have have balance?

How hath are thee

“speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:19-20 NIV

Whenever I read this passage I think of people speaking in King James Version speech. It makes me smile.  When I think of pslams and hymns are songs that encourage. Then if that is the true then we should be encouraging one another everyday.   That these songs will make glad the heart will help you make music from your heart.  The end of it all should be that you are giving thanks to the Lord for everything.

Just a thought

Fear

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10NIV

A week from today is Halloween. The media has begun to show all the scary movies and trying to prick the fear button.  When I read this passage is see something else.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. The kind of fear of Lord is a respectful type of fear that keeps oneself in check.

So with this little thought. Here is one question - Are you walking in the fear of the Lord? or Are you walking in some other fear?

Just a thought

Restored Joy

“Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” Psalm 51:12 NIV

There is thre parts to this passage.. Words that make me thing
1. Restore 2. Grant 3. Sustain

1, Restore the Joy of your salvation.
Think back to the day of your salvation the joy that your felt. Here comes a statement of restore.  As you look at there must have been a point that one has lost it. Now it has to be restored.

2. Grant me a willing a spirit.
The word grant needs permission. When I read this I was thinking of someone praying for a willing spirit to do what the Lord has commanded me to.   I think of willing spirit means making the choice to to follow His will.

3. Sustain me
To me when I read this is giving me the energy to comtinue even when things seems to be going bad.

When you bring this passage together. We have to repond with a prayer that will help us keep on keeping on.

You Think your a Lottery winner

“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”Psalm 37:4 NIV

This passage has made many people think woohoo just won the lottery. In this passage individuals may look past the beginning and hope to the end where it "He will give the desires of your heart".  Now sometimes people get out the gigantic "Christmas list for God" out and beginning calling them desires of the heart.

So ask yourself what is the desires of your hear? Is it to be rich? Is is to be famous? You probably think.

I dare to challenge you on this.. That your desire of your heart should be to delight yourself in the Lord and walk in His ways.

Think about it.

It my life and I want it NOW!

“Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”Psalm 27:14 NIV

I love this is passage of scripture because it uses the word wait..  This is hard concept for any of us to get.  We have just a "I want it now" society.  The latest thing that comes on the market.

This passage actually gives us encouragement to be strong and take heart.  The Lord know that how much energy it will take to wait. So here He is encouraging us to be strong and take heart and wait.

So friends maybe this is a word for you today.. WAIT!

THE INWARD PULL: The need to please

Matthew 7:13-14

Amplified Bible (AMP)
13Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it.
14But the gate is narrow (contracted [a]by pressure) and the way is straitened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it.

TWO BARRIERS ON THE ROAD TO WEIRD

1)      THE INWARD PULL: THE NEED TO PLEASE.

Consumed with the need to please. What will people think?

Get rid of my television—wwpt?
Start a ministry to single moms—wwpt?
Minister to foster kids—wwpt?

  • Becoming obsessed with what people think—quickest way to forget God what God thinks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24 Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned. I violated the Lord's command and your instructions. I was afraid of the people and so I gave in to them. 1 Sam 15:24-25

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teach kids! Not just ok to be different—Spirit led—WAY BETTER!

Family identity strong—peer pressure weak
Halloween… practice as a family—going to be different.

We as humans have this overwhelming need to please those around us. What should be our main focus how we should please God in all that we do and be the first thought of our day.

As you can tell this is part my outline from Sunday Morning. Next week I will have video devo will be up.

Have a blessed Thursday!

Don't get stuck in the buckets

Matthew 7:13-14

New International Version (NIV)
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Don't get stuck in the bucket! Try this sometime: If you're ever at a beach, just get a little bucket and put a bunch of sand crabs into the bucket and you'll watch that you don't have to put a lid on the bucket to keep the crabs in, because the crabs will do all of the work for you. Whenever one little crab decides, "I'm sick of the bucket! I'm sick of hanging out with crabs and I want to be free!"

Crab one will start to climb out and another crab will say, "No you don't!"

And he'll grab him by the crab butt, and pull his little crab butt back down into the bucket and it will happen every single time! And I can promise you, as soon as you feel the Spirit of God leading you off the normal road, into a God-honoring road, there's going to be a lot of crabby people reaching for you saying, "Don't leave us! Come back to normal! Where do you think you're going?"

You may be wondering, "Why do crabs do that?" And the answer is, nobody knows because crabs don't talk and we can't figure it out at all!

Why do people do that? Because there's comfort in the crowd! "Don't leave us!"

9 Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. 10 When I weep and fast, they scoff at me. 11 When I dress in burlap to show sorrow, they make fun of me. 12 I am the favorite topic of town gossip, and all the drunks sing about me. Ps 69:9-12 NLT

June 5 devo

Matthew 7:13-14

New International Version (NIV)
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

  • IF YOU WANT WHAT NORMAL PEOPLE HAVE, DO WHAT NORMAL PEOPLE DO.

  • IF YOU WANT WHAT FEW PEOPLE HAVE, DO WHAT FEW PEOPLE DO.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay to be different: Not only okay
When Spirit directed, WAY BETTER!

Be holy, because I am holy. 1 Peter 1:16

When we see a Pastor, or Priest - People look at them as the definition of a holy person.  I can say for myself... God is still working on me and the process will not be complete until I am in Heaven.  I am striving to be Holy in my life every day.
 Greek Word for you...

hagios (hag'-ee-os);  to be holy, pure, set apart, different.

To be different to be set apart (Sanctified)  to live in the world don't participate in all it deception. Be people of the word..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pursue Christ with all of your heart—be different—weird!
Goal is not weird—honor God.

Remember—no cookie cutter weird—God’s custom weird…

Your Not ALONE!

The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”” -Zephaniah 3:17

Have you ever felt like you were alone in the midst of  junk but realizing that with the Lord you are never alone.  I love the last part of this verse that he will rejoice over you. He is excited about you and he loves you.

How amazing is that..

Through out life's journeys that the Lord is with you!

God bless you !

Covered by a Sinless Sacrifice!

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” - 2 Corinthians 5:21

This verse really has challenge me. God sent his own son to be crucified for us so that in him we may become the righteousness of God.

Man, Humankind has fallen down on the job. I know that throughout my life I have to followed Him like I should but I praise the Lord I'm on the right track.

Wow, to think of this - what an awesome loving father that we have!

Have a blessed day!

The ransom

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.” - 1 Timothy 2:5-6

Wow what a great way to start a new week grasping that the purpose of the Lord  was to be a ransom for you and I.   You and I have advocate between God and us is that awesome or what.

Today is the first Day back after spring break this had to be one of the most restful time and a time to spend time with the Lord. This was a time to listen to Him as he directs me in this ministry. I anticipate great things for this church in Burlington. God has purposed great people. I am blessed as have the privilege to lead them.  I anticipate a great move of God across this globe.

I would have just end this post with The END Is near. I pray that your hearts are ready...

God Bless you all

No Fear in Love

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” - 1 John 4:18

As I begin to meditate on this word and what is saying to us.  Perfect Love is found in Jesus.  1 Cor 13 is all about love and what it is.  But to walk in Jesus is place of peace and not fear.

I pray that we all walk in that perfect love.

May God bless you

Be Convinced and Be seperated

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 8:38-39

This morning two words stuck out to me convinced and separate.  Being convinced means to me that you know and believed.  This is saying that we must be convinced that nothing can stop us with our relationship with the Father.  Did you see what I wrote NOTHING!  No issues of life will stop what you believe.

Then the second word - Separate.  Now I am not saying that your suppose to this holy than thou attitude. What the passage is you will not be be separated from the Father.  Back in the day, when I played basketball the coach would tell us that when we played man to man defense to stick our man like glue.

So here is what I am saying stick to the Father like clue and never let go.

Be blessed to day..

More Than a conqueror

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” - Romans 8:35,37

What an awesome passage of encouragement. This shows us that no matter what is going on in our life as long as we are centered in on our Heavenly father and him alone we will make it.   This is not always things work we get so focused  on the problem. We miss the hold of the answer.

So today my challenge is that you focus on the answer not the problem.

Have a blessed day

True Love - Sacrifice!

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” - 1 John 4:10

True Love = Sacrifice.  God sent his son for a sacrifice for us. What an example of us about true love.   Love is about sacrifice. Marriage is about sacrifice - when you love someone you will do everything that you can for the other person.

This is opposite of what our society has promoted - if it difficult jump ship and find new love. Notice I didn't say true love because if they would have stuck with it the definition of true love would have been defined for them.

True Love is sacrificial.

Have a blessed day

Happy Valentines day!

““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”” - John 13:34-35

Yesterday, I spoke about extravagant love. This made me think of what God did by send the perfect valentine His Son to die on the cross for our sins and then rose again..  What an awesome thought!

Today passage states to love one another! I pray that we put that into practice.

Have blessed day!

Valentines throughout the year

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

We are embarking on Valentines day! Where people try to show there love for one another. I would like you to challenge you with the scripture that you and I could show love throughout the year if we would dare to follow this passage.

I believe that there would be more peace on our lives.

Have a blessed Friday!

You are Just a Bunch of Noise if you don't have love

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” - 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

I was just thinking this morning with Valentines coming that some people say they love but they have no content which like a bunch of noise.

But when I think of my awesome wife I do Love her so much. I love Jesus with all my heart. I love my daughters with all my heart.  I love my church and community with all my heart. This means there is not a lot of room for noise.

Have a blessed day

thank God For you !

“[Thanksgiving and Prayer] We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.” - 2 Thessalonians 1:3

As I read this statement of thank God for you... Well, I praise the Lord for all you but we need to continue to grow in faith.

Grow in your faith

Can't we just get along

“[Love for Enemies] “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” - Matthew 5:43-45

I read this scripture and thought wow in this day of living we see more bickering and bake biting amongst people because of disagreements from the smallest to largest of issues to smalled neighborhood to the largest group of influential people (the government) not showing love or the matter of fact respect.

This morning this statement came to my mind "Can't we just get along".

Ask yourself this question are you showing the kind of love that our Heavenly showed you if not place it in you heart to begin today!
Have a great DAY

Love God Hate evil

“Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” - Psalm 97:10

This past weekend I was watching a video entitled "Lord, save us from ourselves". It was on the premise that Christians act differently in the outside that church then they do inside the church. Which makes that statement mean the some Christians are hypocrites.

So I guess my biggest challenge from me as well as you that we love God with all that is in us no matter where we are.

Have a blessed Monday!

Get On the Rock!

“[Psalm 18] For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. He sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” -Psalm 18:1-2

Good Morning!

As I begin to read this passage of scripture. I read about my fortress, my deliver, my shield, my stronghold but is statement in the middle of my rock.

When I think of a rock I think of strength or a firm foundation. When you put all the other statements together there is defiantly a strong foundation and a safe haven.

I don't what this verse speaks to you but to me it speaks to that no matter the issues of life that I may be going through I can get through it as long as I on the firm foundation of our Heavenly Father.

See you Monday!
Well Be blessed today.
